Grand Master Jim Galati of Lawtons, N.Y., and Sensei Bill Matteson held a highly prestigious evaluation/promotion ceremony for advancement to Shodan first-degree black belt for Sensei MeKenna Leid, on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Leid, who attends Fredonia Middle School, has been involved in martial arts for over six years. Her father, sensei Tom Leid, assisted in the evaluation/promotion ceremony. After an intense review, sensei MeKenna Leid qualified for promotion through the Fudozan Shorinji Kempo Karate system. Sensei MeKenna Leid was tested on her weapons, kata forms, jujitsu defense and offense, self defense, fighting and her ability to endure pressure. Sensei MeKenna Leid has will continue as a junior instructor with the Family Martial Arts Center.
