"Ode To Jenn Suhr"
Sixteen feet is not so far
to walk or swim or push a car,
but when you try to leave the ground
gravity tends to push you down.
Then there comes through cloud and sun
in black and orange a special one
with seventeen strides she plants her pole
and hurtles toward Olympic gold.
Up, up into the atmosphere,
fifteen feet and then she clears
suspended for a moment, soft,
a thousand iphones held aloft.
We who only hug the earth
may dance and tumble on the turf
but one of us has gone so far
to shrink the distance to a star.
Therefore let us lift our gaze,
especially on bitter days,
take courage, pride, and learn from Jenn:
Think about where she has been.

Facts don't
get in way
Editor, OBSERVER:
I have reviewed several "on the street interview sessions" of many voters, both before and after their respective voting.
These voters were asked who they voted for or who they would be voting for.
One after another they went down the line of questions; saying they were in agreement with their candidate.
One problem: they were not agreeing with the platform of their favored candidate. They were being read the positions of the opposition. "Oh, yes I agree with that!" were their definite cries.
Here's an example from an Obama voter: "Do you agree with Obama's choice of Paul Ryan as his V.P.?"Response: "Yes, definitely."
Q. "Do you think Paul Ryan will make a good vice president for Obama?" A. "Yes, for sure". I am not making this up! It is all over Youtube.
Many of these people even thought Paul Ryan to be a black man and that Sarah Palin was Obama's running mate! To frost the cake, these people will be voting (with essentially no knowledge of what's going on in the USA).
And you wonder what is the impetus of our dilemma?

Bring back
Sky Jam
Editor, OBSERVER:
It has been three years since the last balloon launch "Sky Jam" at the Jamestown airport.
The last two were fantastic with both balloons and an air show.
Just wondering if there is anyone out there interested in bringing back Sky Jam? Balloons and planes are great, but get really expensive.
It would be great to restart Sky Jam at the old section at the Chautauqua County airport. Small plane rides are fine, but maybe go back to two separate events, Sky Jam and the open house at the airport.
Think about it Chautauqua County.
