Richard L. Kuehn

FORESTVILLE - Richard L. Kuehn, 89, of Swan Street, Forestville, died Sunday, September 30, 2012, at TLC/HN-Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Dunkirk on July 2, 1923, the son of the late Leo Joseph and Ruth (Crowell) Kuehn.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Private in WW II. Mr. Kuehn worked as a Crane Operator for the former Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in Dunkirk, for 18 years, retiring in 1972 and had also at one time owned and operated a dairy farm on Pope Hill Road, Forestville.

He was a member of Hanover Lodge #152 F&AM, Forestville Chapter #247 OES, J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville, Sheridan VFW Memorial Post #6390, the Forestville United Methodist Church, Fredonia Beaver Club and a former member of Dunkirk Moose Lodge #89. He enjoyed bird watching, wood-working, welding, flowers and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Martin) Kuehn of Forestville, whom he married in Winchester, Virginia; six daughters, Shirley Stott of Jacksonville, FL, Jean Lucas of North Wales, PA, Peggy (Mark) Kirk of East Aurora, Betty S. (Charles) Brecht of Forestville, Debora (Charles III) Ortolano, of Fredonia, Colleen (Carl) Kaminski, of Dunkirk; three sons Roger (Denise Shoemaker) Kuehn of Hartsville, TN, James Kuehn of Pollock, LA, Richard Kuehn II of Forestville; and a brother, Albert (Concetta) Kuehn of Fredonia. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Alice (Brocksopp) Kuehn, who died in 1959; a brother, Ernest Kuehn; a great granddaughter Shawnee McGowan, who died March 30, 2006; and 2 sons-in-law, John Stott & Bruce Lucas.

Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from where Funeral Services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock, with Rev. James D. Hankey, pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Willowbrook Park Cemetery, Dunkirk, NY.

Masonic Services will be conducted in the funeral home by members of Hanover Lodge #152 F&AM Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock and Military Grave-side Services will be conducted by members of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forest-ville and Sheridan VFW Memorial Post #6390.
