Gowanda tops FHS in five; CVCS falls to Southwestern

GOWANDA - Fredonia (1-6, 2-9) jumped out to a fast start, but Gowanda (5-2, 6-3) righted the ship and rallied to win in five, Wednesday in CCAA Division 1 girls volleyball.

After Fredonia won the first two games, 25-15, 25-23, Gowanda came roaring back with three straight wins, 25-16, 29-27, 25-19.

Maddy Crandall recorded 23 assists and nine digs for the Lady Hillbillies while Alyssa Crespo added 13 kills and four aces and Makenzie Tarnowski registered six kills, two aces and a block in the loss.

Individual stats for Gowanda were unavailable.

Non-league

CVCS 17 12 23

SINCLAIRVILLE - Shawana Miller recorded six kills, but Cassadaga Valley fell in straight sets to Southwestern in non-league high school volleyball action.

Maya Sischo added seven assists for the Lady Cougars, but Southwestern prevailed, 25-17, 25-12, 25-23.

Sally Rudny paced the Lady Trojans with nine kills. Jenna Rauh and Maddy Alexander each added five kills and Kara Schutt registered 10 assists, 10 digs and four aces.

Cassadaga Valley won the jayvee contest, 25-15, 13-25, 25-13.

The Lady Cougars return to CCAA Divison 2 play, Wednesday when they travel to Silver Creek.
