In a recent article printed in the OBSERVER (Sept. 29), a member of the community spoke during the public comment section of the meeting and passed out some financial data. His attempt to audit numbers of some budgets led him to think there was a missing $2,650,000 dollars from the last four Brocton Central School budgets.
I would like to assure the community that there is no money missing from our current or past budgets. Professional auditors from Bahgat-Laurito-Bahgat, P.C. conduct our external audit each year, and the auditors of Buffamante-Whipple-Buttafaro, P.C. conduct the internal audit each year. These qualified teams stand behind their work to officially account for all of our district's fiscal data.
The Brocton Central School is in good financial condition and will continue to maintain all aspects of the current budget in order to end the school year in good standing.
The Brocton Central School District is required to undergo two annual financial audits from independent New York state accounting and auditing firms as well as an accounting by one monthly auditor of claims. All of these audits have indicated that the District follows responsible and accurate accounting practices, and that the District is in sound fiscal condition at this point.
The Brocton Central School encourages public input and questions from the community and tries to answer all these concerns and questions in a timely manner.
Once again, I want to assure the public and the local communities that the District does not have $2 million in missing funds. We are in good fiscal condition, with all monies being used in a fiscally responsible manner.
