OLEAN - Collin Young scored with 42 seconds left on the clock to give Olean (6-0-1, 10-1-1) a 1-0 victory over Fredonia (4-3, 6-5), Thursday in CCAA Division 1 high school soccer.
"It was a big scrum in front of the net," Olean coach Jim Charles explained the winning goal. "I didn't even see it. I didn't know who scored for us until the end of the game. The official was standing right there. It was a game of inches tonight."
Alex Austin recorded his eighth shutout of the season for the Huskies.
Nick Hart made four saves for Fredonia.
"The defenses were really tight," Charles added. "The midfield moved the ball really well, too."
"I think we played a great game," Fredonia coach Jeff Walker said. "We did a great job of possessing the ball. We just haven't had luck putting the ball in the back of the net so far this year."
Fredonia hosts Southwestern on Tuesday.
Division 2
Portville 7, Silver Creek 0
SILVER CREEK - The short-handed Silver Creek Black Knights (3-7-1) gave up five second-half goals in falling to Portville, 7-0, Thursday in CCAA Division 2 boys' high school soccer.
Kody Miller led Portville with three goals while Alex Carr and Brady Stein each had two for the winners.
"We are injured and ran out of steam in the second half," Silver Creek coach Eric Johengen said. "We played hard in the first half. We had one sloppy mishap to give up one goal. It could have been 1-0 at half."
Despite the lopsided loss, Johengen found some bright spots.
"I thought freshmen Mike Feldmann played a solid game in the midfield," he said. "He worked his tail off. He worked hard from start to finish as did his brother, James. It was a great effort by him."
Nate Serio also had a stellar game as he recorded five shots on net, according to Johengen.
The Black Knights return to action Tuesday when they host Randolph.
