As you have seen on our front page, today is a big day for readers. Besides the introduction of our new iPhone app, it is also the contest deadline for a contest for two $100 gas cards.
Our app, which is promoted throughout the paper, extends our already large reach when it comes to readership in the region. Available in print since 1882 and online at observertoday.com, we already reach 34,000 people each day - or about 70 percent of the population we serve throughout northern Chautauqua County.
With the addition of the app, our reach has the potential to grow even larger as phones have become a medium of choice, especially with the younger generation, when news consumers are not reading the print product or viewing it online.

An election
we can agree on
Fredonia Mayor Stephen Keefe sent out an e-mail to many in the community to add their support for Fredonia native and Olympic gold champion Jennifer Suhr.
Suhr is one of six female athletes in the running for the USA Track & Field 2012 Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year Award. Online balloting accounts for 10 percent of the voting.
To register your support, go to www.usatf.org and look for the 2012 Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year link. Deadline for voting is 11:59 p.m. Oct. 12.
