Board of Elections extends hours
The Chautauqua County Board of Elections will be open extended hours leading up to the Nov. 6 General Election.
It will open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday for voter registration and to allow voters who will be absent from the county on election day to come and vote in person. Saturday is also the last day for in-person voter registration. Friday is the last day for voters to postmark a new voter registration to be eligible for the November election. The election board will also be open for absentee voter balloting on Oct. 20 and 27 (9 a.m. to noon), Oct. 24 and 31 (until 7 p.m.) and Oct. 25 and Nov. 2 (until 7 pm.). The normal election board operating hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and the board can be reached by calling 753-4580. Voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications are available at most county post offices, libraries, town, city or village halls and at www.votechautauqua.com.
North County Office Building parking lot closed today
The parking lot adjacent to the North County Office Building on the 300 block of Central Avenue in Dunkirk will undergo maintenance work and re-striping today. It is requested that all vehicles be removed from the lot between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. today.
Forestville special meeting Wednesday
The Village of Forestville will hold a special meeting Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Village Hall, 18 Chestnut St., Forestville.
City Hall closed today
Dunkirk City Hall is closed today in observance of Columbus Day. There will also be no zero-sort recycling pickup today.
Meet-a-liberty-patriot presentation set
A Revolutionary War patriot presentation will be given on Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Sinclairville Public Library.
Topics briefly covered will include riflemen preliminaries, the Black Regiment, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and information about an educational trip to Erie, which covers three historical sites, including the site where General "Mad" Anthony Wayne passed away.
Also, Thomas Jefferson's view of government will be reviewed, as it compares to modern-day government.

The Cassadaga Valley Central School invites parents and community members from the district to participate in the Olweus Bully Prevention Training Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. both days. A participant is required to attend both days to complete the training.
