Carter D'Agostino had three goals while Alex Venn had two goals to lead the Steelers to a league-opening win over Monroe County at the Scottsville Ice Arena in Rochester. Zachary Rybak had the other Steelers goal. Cassie Essex had two assists while Connor Daniels and Hunter Rizzo each had an assist. Nick Novelli was in goal for the Steelers.

Tri-County Eagles 6, NCCYHA Fredonia Steelers 0

In a game played at SUNY Brockport's Tuttle North Ice Arena, Tri-County defeated the Steelers. Tri-County had one goal in the first period, three goals in the second period and two in the third period. Nick Novelli and Gabe Persch shared goaltending duties for the Steelers. The Steelers open the home portion of their schedule Oct. 13 when they play host to the Niagara Coyotes at Steele Hall.

Family Martial Arts Center

The Family Martial Arts Center has recently come under new management and will be offering free self defense classes from Oct. 22 through Nov. 3.

The Center, located at 355 Central Ave. in Fredonia, has programs designed to keep children active while also educating them in a disciplined sport.

At the end of the two-week trial period, students are invited to sign up for a promotional package which includes a rate discount and a free uniform. No family will be turned away no matter their financial situation.

The scheduling of events at Family Martial Arts Center is:

Ages 3-6 - Tuesday and Thursday 6:00-6:45 p.m.; Saturday 11:00-11:45 a.m.

Ages 7-18 - Monday 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Wednesday 6:00-6:45 p.m.; Saturday 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Self defense ages 10-18 - Tuesday and Thursday 5:30-7:00 p.m.
