WESTFIELD - The public is invited to compete in a Creative Hat Contest on Oct. 20 at the Cross Roads Market, County Route 21, above Westfield. Prizes will be awarded for most creative, funniest, and most beautiful. There will be a separate category for Red Hatters. Registration for entries is free and begins at 10 a.m. in Building 1. All entries will be exhibited throughout the day. Judging will take place at 2 p.m., followed by the announcement of winners and awarding of prizes. A hat parade will follow. Event planners look forward to a fun day for the creators of the hats as well as for the customers visiting the market.
In conjunction with the Hat Contest, Cross Roads Market is having a "Warm the Children" Drive for warm hats, socks, mittens and scarves. The donated items will be collected throughout October and distributed to needy families in Chautauqua County in November. Bring a gift to Building 1 where there are several hat and mitten trees on display near the front doors. Cross Roads shoppers will have the opportunity to vote for the People's Choice Award by monetary donation for their favorite creative hat on display. The funds raised will go to the Warm the Children fund as well.
This is just one of the many community outreach projects that Cross Roads Market holds for charity each year. The Soup Fest in the spring raises money for services for cancer patients in Chautauqua County. The car show in August raised $1,800 for the WNY Food Bank. That money also stays in Chautauqua County. The Chili Fest, held this year on Oct. 6, always raises a sizable donation for Hospice. The Cross Roads Market gives back to the community with fundraisers throughout the year.
Cross Roads Market is a large cooperative featuring a wide variety of products. Within the three buildings, vendors of handcrafted items display pottery, soaps, candles, alpaca yarns, quilts, hand-knitted items, baby items, maple syrup, fudge, coffees, cheeses, specialty spices and food mixes, original women's accessories, jewelry, candles, home decor, and even offer wine tastings. Many items are unique. There is also food for lunch as well as specialty food items to take home. It is an all-day experience for the whole family.
Cross Roads Market is located on the Westfield-Sherman Road, County Route 21, about five miles above Westfield. It is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., May through Dec. 22.
