Following Dunkirk's 2-1 overtime loss to Westfield-Brocton on Thursday in CCAA Division 1 boys' high school soccer game, Marauders coach Brian Crawford called this season "Murphy's Law."

"What can go bad, has gone bad," he lamented.

He then added a positive to the season.

"Through everything we have been through, I give these kids a lot of credit," he said. "They keep fighting. They aren't lying down or making excuses. They are going out and continue to play hard and try to get better. As a coach, that's all I can ask for. We have had some bad luck and had trying games. It hasn't been meant to be. Luck just isn't with us. We keep trying to push through and thats all I can ask for."

Westfield's Dylan Robinson scored the game-winning overtime goal on a penalty kick to rally the Wolverines to victory.

The Marauders (1-7-1, 1-10-2) opened the scoring at the 34th minute as Alex Tomaszewski scored off a feed from senior Mick Willis on Senior Day.

"All eight seniors can walk off the field with their heads high," Crawford said. "All eight played outstanding. Even a kid like Mick Willis, who hasn't seen much time, came out and he was like a shot out of a gun. He played as hard as he could and got an assist."

The Wolverines tied the score 1:30 into the second half as Dan Tofil found the back of the net to set up the overtime. Manuel Paramo was credited with the assist.

"It was two even teams," Westfield coach Jay Pikiewicz said. "I thought we played well together. Both Dunkirk and Westfield-Brocton showed a lot of improvements since Day 1."

Ty Bentham was the winning goalie with six saves while Nick Kobel made eight saves.

Dunkirk returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Fredonia.

Fredonia 2, Falconer 0

FALCONER - Aiden Lang scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Fredonia Hillbillies (5-4, 7-6) to a 2-0 victory over Falconer (1-7-1, 1-12-1) on Thursday in CCAA Division 1 boys' high school soccer.

Lang opened the scoring off a feed from Julius Woma. Lang then assisted Jon Saeli's goal in the first half for the 2-0 win.

Nick Hart was the winning goalie as he was forced to make just one save.

"We had an outstanding performance by the defense," Fredonia coach Jeff Walker said. "The whole defensive squad did a great job."

Tyler Dykstra was the losing goalie despite making 15 saves.
