Tennis Championships held at Lakewood YMCA

LAKEWOOD - Rachel Mole of Frewsburg won the singles title and Elizabeth Rowan and Victoria VanEvery of Southwestern won the doubles championship at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Tennis Championships at the Lakewood Family YMCA on Friday.

In the singles semifinals, Mole defeated Baylee Tarnowski of Fredonia, 6-0, 6-0, and May Li of Southwestern topped Carolyn Becker of Falconer, 6-4, 6-1.

In the championship match, Mole defeated Li, 6-2, 6-3.

These were the singles and doubles semifinalists at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Tennis championships held at the Lakewood Family YMCA and they qualified for the Section 6 Championships that will be at the same site on Oct. 26 and 27. In front, from left, the singles semifinalists were Rachel Mole of Frewsburg, May Li of Southwestern, Caroline Becker of Falconer and Baylee Tarnowski of Fredonia. In back, the doubles semifinalists were Elizabeth Rowan and Victoria VanEvery of Southwestern, Samantha Robins and Dori Ruff of Chautauqua Lake, Emily Hair and RoseMarie Mole of Frewsburg and Abby Whisner and Chloe Knapp of Jamestown.

Becker defeated Tarnowski, 6-4, 7-4, to determine third and fourth place.

For the Section 6 Tournament, that will also be held at the Lakewood Family YMCA on Oct. 26 and 27, Mole will be the No. 1 seed from the CCAA with Li second, Becker third and Tarnowski fourth.

In the doubles semifinals, Samantha Robbins and Dori Ruff of Chautauqua Lake defeated Abby Whisner and Chloe Knapp of Jamestown, 6-3, 6-4, and Elizabeth Rowan and Victoria VanEvery of Southwestern downed Emily Hair and Rose Marie Mole of Frewsburg, 6-2, 6-1.

Rowan and Van Every won the championship match, 6-2, 6-1, over Robbins and Ruff.

Whisner and Knapp defeated Hair and Mole, 7-5, 6-1, to determine third and fourth place.

The CCAA doubles seeding for sectionals will be Rowan and VanEvery first, Robbins and Ruff second, Whisner and Knapp third and Hair and Mole fourth.
