GOWANDA- Austin Mietz had a field day for the Akron Tigers as he threw for three touchdowns, ran for two and even recovered a fumble for a score as he led his team to a 42-0 win over the Gowanda Panthers in CCAA Division 1 high school football Friday.
In the first quarter, Mietz connected with Austen Lauricella for a 17-yard passing touchdown, before adding a 15-yard rushing touchdown later in the quarter.
The Tigers had a big second quarter as Mietz recovered a fumble and took it 73 yards to reach paydirt.
Mietz also added an 11-yard pass to C.J. Longwell in the second.
The only points not scored by Mietz were a the six points that Connor Ladd scored, three of which came on a 33-yard field goal in the second quarter. The other three points all came on extra points.
Mietz connected with Lauricella once more in the fourth quarter, this time from 15 yards out.
With the win Akron moves to 4-3 on the season while Gowanda closed out a difficult rebuilding year winless.
