The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (1-9, 2-12) volleyball team had about as close of a match as it comes, but unfortunately came out on the losing end to the Jamestown Lady Red Raiders (3-8, 3-9) on Monday in a CCAA Division 1 matchup.
Jamestown took three straight sets after falling behind by two to clinch the win by a score of 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 25-8 and 28-26.
"This was a great, great volleyball match," Fredonia coach Chris Anderson said. "There were a lot of rallies both ways. It was just great to see both teams playing as hard as they were."
Leading the way in the victory for the Lady Red Raiders were Emily Kurpatwinski with 28 assists and three aces, while Kaytlin Haines had 10 kills, a pair of aces and 16 digs. Haley Jones added 13 kills and Chrisanna Green chipped in with three blocks for Jamestown.
After winning the first two games of the match, the Lady Hillbillies watched momentum swing in favor of the visitors in the third set.
"We were really close most of the way," Anderson said. "In the third set one of our hitters got hurt, so we had to make an adjustment quickly. In the fourth set we didn't make the right adjustment and got beat pretty badly, but other than that it was close the whole way."
Margret Wright led the Lady Hillbillies with eight kills, three aces and 12 digs. Maddy Crandall had 16 assists and three kills, while Mackenzie Tarnowski had eight kills and a pair of blocks in the loss. Emily Ludwig also added three kills and three blocks.
