WACS Community Ed classes available

WESTFIELD - Westfield Academy and Central School is announcing the Community Education Course Offerings for fall 2012. Call Rebecca Huber-Ross at 326-2151, ext. 243 for more information or to register. Registration forms are also available online at wacs.wnyric.org under the Programs tab, at the main reception desk at Westfield School, Patterson Library and the Westfield branch of Innerlakes Federal Credit Union.

Courses offered:

Facebook 101 for Seniors - From 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 and 14, Room 236. Registration Fee: $20. Instructor: Business Education Teacher Kim Abbey

This program is for older adults who would like to learn more about the popular social networking site in a small group setting. Those attending should have a basic working knowledge of computers and must have a personal e-mail account before attending the class. Participants can bring and use their own personal laptops if they wish or use the computers in the classroom. If you need help establishing an e-mail account, please arrive 15 minutes prior to class and the instructor will assist you.

Parent and Child Craft Nights - from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Oct. 23, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11, Room118. Registration Fee: $12 per session. Instructor: Ashley Raynor

This class is for all moms, dads or grandparents with children aged five to ten. Bring your child to a fun-filled class full of many different crafts. Activities will include holiday and seasonal crafts made of reusable items within homes for low-cost activities you can replicate for years to come.

5 Hour Prelicensing Class - Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Large Group Instruction Room. Registration Fee: AAA members $31, non-members $36. You need to pre-register for this class at www.aaa.com or by calling 1-800-836-CLUB

AAA Western and Central New York offers you the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles 5-hour pre-licensing course. This is the minimal requirement necessary to schedule and take a road test; this 5-hour course will provide the MV-278 certificate.

Spanish for the Tourist - Tuesdays from: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 29 and Nov. 5, 13 and19, Room 220. Registration Fee: $30. Instructor: Monica Knoll

This class will focus on speaking in practical situations which will include vocabulary and answering questions that will come up frequently. This class will be most useful for adults because it will be modeled around what comes up in travel situations and when meeting people for the first time.

Upcycled Jewelry: Paper and Sea Glass - Wednesdays 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.. Oct. 17 Dec. 12 (no class on Nov. 21). Room 114. Registration Fee: $35. Instructor: Art Teacher Geri Beers

Learn how to make paper beads from magazines, glue and clear fingernail polish.

Supplies: Glue stick, bottle of clear fingernail polish, box of toothpicks, spool of .8mm clear elastic beading cord, earring wires, eye or head pins, jump rings (available in a set at Walmart), one package large seed beads (4mm) black.

Learn how to wrap sea glass to make pendants, earrings, charms no drilling needed. Supplies: spool of 20 gauge wire, assortment of sea glass of all sizes and colors, earring wires, eye or head pins, jump rings ( You do not need two sets. One set for both types of jewelry will be enough), large link bracelet for attaching charms.
