Donations are lasting tributes

A donation to the Dunkirk Free Library given as a memorial serves as a lasting tribute and extends an individual's impact on the community.

Honor donations are perfect to commemorate special occasions such as anniversaries, graduations, and holidays.

Memorials and Honors can benefit the library in many areas including books, the Children's Room, the Computer Lab and much more.

Visit the Dunkirk Free Library at 536 Central Ave., call 366-2511, or visit www.cclslib.org/Dunkirk.

Town Hall meeting for Pine Valley District Community members

Are you concerned about how we can help our youth stay away from risky behaviors such as alcohol, substance abuse, delinquency, violence and dropping out of school?

Do you want to make a difference in our community?

If so, please join us on Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the South Dayton Fire Department Activities Hall where Pine Valley Central School District administrators and Chautauqua Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Council will provide our school community with factual information on the above risk factors for youth.

Last May, Pine Valley students in grades 7-12 participated in the New York State Youth Development Survey that was administered by CASAC, and the survey results will be presented at the Oct. 25 meeting.

Refreshments will be served. Everyone who attends will be included in a drawing at the end of the meeting with 10 lucky people receiving gift certificates to show our appreciation for your interest in our youth.

Hispanic and women farmers claim process

Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who allege discrimination by the USDA in past decades can file claims until March 25, 2013.

The process offers a voluntary alternative to litigation for each Hispanic or female farmer who can prove that USDA denied their applications for loans or loan servicing assistance for discriminatory reasons for certain time periods between 1981 and 2000.

There are no filing fees to participate in the program. Claimants must register for a claims package by calling the claims center or visiting the website and the claims package will be mailed.

The website address is www.farmerclaims.gov. The phone number is 1-888-508-4429.

All those interested in learning more or receiving information about the claims process and claims packages are encouraged to contact the website or claims telephone number.

Chautauqua County Farm Service Agency will conduct a public meeting on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. to provide additional information on this program in the A&B Conference Room, located in the Ag Service Building, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown, beginning at 6 p.m.
