Dale Edwin John

Dale Edwin John, 74, passed away on October 11, 2012 at his Las Vegas, Nevada home from hyper-tension coronary arrest. He was born on August 12, 1938 in Gowanda, New York, to Cecil I. John and Alberta A. Kennedy (Donnelly).

As a young man, Dale attended the Haskell Indian Institute in Lawrence, Kansas and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a journeyman barber for over forty years working in California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada; and also owned a successful espresso business for many years in Portland, Oregon.

Dale had a love of reading, traveling, watching foreign films, playing Texas Hold 'em tournaments, and most recently specializing in making Mata Ortiz pottery. He enjoyed making people laugh with his witty humor and was well-known for his friendliness and his love of passing on his knowledge and wisdom to others. All who knew him will miss his laughter and his serene smile.

Loving father of Jennifer John, Lisa (Les) Calles, and Laura John; stepfather of Morasa and Sapphir So; brother of Darwin, Ronald, Cecile (Bowman), Cecil Jr., Jackie, and the late Gerald and Kathy Griebe; and eight grandchildren.

Services for Dale will be held at the home of Nathaniel and Terry Sue John, at 35 Hare Road on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, on October 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., burial at the Seneca Nation Community Cemetery, with a dinner to follow at the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation Volunteer Fire Department Hall. Arrangements by Wentland Funeral Home, North Collins, NY.
