Moving on to the next round

No. 14 Fredonia takes care of No. 19 JFK, 7-0

The No. 14 Fredonia Lady Hillbillies had little trouble moving on to the next round of the Section 6 Class C girls' high school soccer playoffs with a 7-0 victory over No. 19 JFK on Monday in pre-quarterfinal action.

The Lady Hillbillies jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

Leading the offensive charge was Morgan Genovese as she scored one goal and added two assists. Her goal set the tone for the day as it came just two minutes into the contest.

"Every team we face, they look at her stats and they mark her with two players," Fredonia coach Cathy Cruver said. "She does a good job and tough to stop."

Also netting goals for the Lady Hillbillies were Emily MacKinnon, Helen Magitti, Kirsta Wheelock, Zoya Katta, Alex Zentz and Alayna Szot.

Magitti, a first-year varsity player. also had an assist in the win.

"She is a quiet powerhouse," Cruver said. "She has a lot of skill."

Emily Valvo added two assists while MacKinnon and Szot each had one.

With the win, Fredonia takes on No. 3 East Aurora today in the quarterfinals.

Cruver noted Monday's victory can only help her team's confidence.

"I know East Aurora will be a tough team," she said. "It's nice to have them on a roll right now. When you have things going for you, hopefully it keeps going."

Bre Dahn was the winning goaltender with three saves.
