County Soil and Water Conservation District meeting Thursday
The Directors of Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its regular meeting on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District Office, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown.
Special meeting today
The Village of Forestville will be hold a special meeting today at 9 a.m. at the Municipal Building, 18 Chestnut St. The board will discuss the appointment of a temporary part-time worker, a Streets and Water Supervisor, the possibility of appointing a trustee and mayor, and accepting the resignation of the previous mayor.
'Cell Phones for Soldiers' sought
Forestville Central School and Community are participating in the "Cell Phones for Soldiers" 2012 Make a Difference Day project.
"Cell Phones for Soldiers" is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active duty military members and veterans.
"Cell Phones for Soldiers" started as a small way to show appreciation for the men and women who have sacrificed the day-to-day contact with their own families to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.
If any community members are interested in participating in this project, there is a box in the front foyer of the elementary school, a box in the high school office, and a box in the Forestville Post Office to put them in. The school will collect phones until Nov. 14.

Fall food drive to be held in Silver Creek
A food drive will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Residents are asked to put food out on their porches and a volunteer will pick up the food and bring it to the Silver Creek Food Pantry.
The event is being co-sponsored by the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Confirmation classes and the Silver Creek Boy Scout Troop 252.
Biannual Trash Crawl set for this weekend
SUNY Fredonia's Cam-pus Climate Challenge will host the 5th, biannual Trash Crawl on Sunday at 1 a.m. Participants are asked to meet outside of Lograsso Hall, where they will be provided with trash bags upon arrival.
A flashlight and brightly colored and/or reflective clothing is recommended for this event.
The purpose of this event is to clean up the trash around the surrounding community as the bars begin to close.
