Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department annual Halloween Costume Parade Saturday

The Village of Fredonia and Town of Pomfret Recreation Department annual Halloween Costume Parade is Saturday at 1 p.m. The event will begin with floats, bands and costumed marchers parading south on Temple Street to Church Street.

Jack Swartz has been named Parade Marshall by the Fredonia-Pomfret Parks Commission for this year's community Halloween Costume Parade.

Swartz is being recognized for his past service at the Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department as a past summer program coordinator and for serving two years as director of the department.

Anyone wishing to enter a float or group can pick up an entry form at the Recreation Department, second floor of Village Hall or print one out from the Village of Fredonia's website village.fredonia.ny.us/. Deadline for entries is today. Prizes will be awarded to the best-judged entries. Individual marchers that are not a part of any group are encouraged to participate in the parade and are asked to line up at 12:30 p.m. at the end of Risley Street. Pre-registration is not necessary for individual marchers.

Following the parade, cider and donuts will be served in the Barker Commons gazebo. Everyone is invited to participate.

Trick or treating will take place in the village and town from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Parents are encouraged to tell their children not to trick or treat beyond 8 p.m. Residents are urged to turn porch lights off at 8 p.m. to signal further trick or treating will not be accepted.
