David R. Baumgartner, 81, of Dunkirk died Friday (Oct.26, 2012) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.
He was born April 29, 1931 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Royal and Mildred (Law) Baumgartner.
A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Mr. Baumgartner served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.

He was the former proud owner of Garden Gate Flower Shop, a family owned and operated business of over 64 years.
David especially loved spending time with his family, Carly the Shih Tzu, gardening and "going to the barn."
Survivors include his wife, Virginia A. (Saville) Baumgartner; five children, Amy Baumgartner-Cave of Dunkirk, David Baumgartner of Las Vegas, NV, Jeffrey Baumgartner of Colorado Springs, CO, Kerry Baumgartner of Brocton, and Kyle (Stephen Bixby) Baumgartner of Dunkirk; one sister, Nancy Ray of Osage Beach, MO; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Tad Baumgartner who died Sept. 21, 1983; one sister, Joanne Himes; and one brother, Roger Baumgartner.
Memorial services will be held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Lawton will officiate. Calling hours will be held Mon-day from 2 to 4 p.m., two hours prior to the service.
The Baumgartner family warmly welcomes flowers.
