Alexander Schimpf to perform Friday at Jamestown church

JAMESTOWN - Alexander Schimpf, winner of the 2011 Cleveland Piano Competition, will be the featured performer for the Jamestown Concert Association's second concert of the 2012-2013 season. The concert will be held Friday at 8 p.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 410 N. Main St., Jamestown.

Schimpf has established himself as a rising star in the classical music world. He quickly rose to the top of the Competition's field of 26 gifted pianists as his performance enthralled audiences, gained the respect of the jury and earned rave reviews from the critics.

In addition to the Cleveland Competition, Schimpf won first prize at the 2008 German Music Competition in the solo piano category, as well as the 2009 Beethoven Competition in Vienna.

Schimpf has performed with numerous orchestras in Germany as well as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra in Austria. He has performed recitals in France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, England and South America. He played with the Chautauqua Symphony this past summer.

The program for the evening will include: Bach's French Suite No.5; Debussy's Images II and L'isle joyeuse; Beethoven's Piano Sonata c minor op. 13 and Ballade No. 2 in b minor by Liszt.)

Tickets for this concert are $20 adult and $17 senior with at $2 discount for tickets purchased in advance. College students are $7.50. Students 18 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
