Trick or treating hours set by local municipalities vary around the region, and some activities have been rescheduled or canceled due to bad weather expected from the remnants of Hurricane Sandy. Most municipalities have scheduled trick or treating hours on the day of Halloween, Wednesday.
Cassadaga has rescheduled its treat or treat hours and parade to Saturday. Trick or treating will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. and the parade will follow at 7:30 p.m. beginning at the fire hall.
The Village of Gowanda has rescheduled trick or treating to Saturday from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. The fire department will host a parade at 5 p.m.
The starting location is at the bus garage on Panther Drive and will proceed down Aldrich Street to the fire hall. The PTA's "Trunk or Treat" has been canceled.
The Town of Perrysburg has also changed its date to Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. "for the safety of all of its residents," according to a press release.
Other municipalities have trick or treating times set for Wednesday as follows:
Brocton kicks off Halloween with a parade at 5 p.m. which begins and ends at the fire hall. Trick or treat hours follow at 5:30 and last until 7 p.m.
Trick or treating hours in the Town of Cherry Creek will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.
In the City of Dunkirk, trick or treat hours will take place from 4 to 8 p.m.
The Fredonia-Pomfret recreation Department announced it will not reschedule Halloween plans, but asks residents to "participate at their discretion." In the Village of Fredonia and the Town of Pomfret, trick or treating will take place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Residents are urged to turn porch lights off at 8 p.m. to signal further trick or treating will not be accepted.
Forestville is holding trick or treat hours from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a costume parade at 6 p.m. on Main Street, which will be closed to vehicles at that time for safety. After the parade, cider and donuts will be served at the fire hall. Costumes will be judged in a number of categories, but all children in costume receive a 50-cent piece until the money runs out. The new Forestville Primary Care Center at 109889 Bennett State Road is offering free goody bags for children, as well as cider, coffee, a raffle and tours, sponsored by Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York.
In Sinclairville, trick or treat hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. and a party at the fire hall will be held afterwards.
South Dayton holds its trick or treat hours from 5 to 8 p.m.
In Silver Creek, a parade begins at 5:30 at the fire hall. Participants will walk down Central Avenue to the Backline Teen Dance Club where cider and doughnuts will be served. There will be a costume contest for age groups five and under, ages six to 13 and 13 years old and up, including adults. There are prizes for the top three winners in each age group, but all participants will receive a prize.
Ripley and Westfield hours for trick or treating are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Town of Sheridan does not set trick or treat hours, and held its party last weekend.
