Twenty years ago - 1992
Two alumni from Fredonia State University College received Outstanding Achievement Awards from the Alumni Association during the October homecoming festivities. Honored were actress Mary McDonnell (1974), currently the sole female cast member in the Robert Redford film "Sneakers" and best known for her role in the movie "Dances With Wolves," and 82-year-old Ray Fadden, for his lifelong work on behalf of Native Americans.
Thirty years ago - 1982
"Please Write To Me, Joe" written by Pete Harris of Center Street, Fredonia has been given honorable mention in the Kentucky Fried Chicken National Country Music Songwriting Contest. His was one of 32,000 entries. A songwriter for more than 40 years, Mr. Harris has had several songs published, including "You'll Find Out" in 1960 by Capitol Records.
Forty years ago - 1972
Mrs. Dorothy B. Dillenburg has been appointed postmaster of Sheridan. She replaces Harry Coogan, who retired after nearly 25 years of service as the Sheridan postal chief.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Bus drivers at Brocton Central School have been honored for maintaining unblemished safety records. Clyde McEwan, transportation officer and principal of the senior high school, presented citations to the drivers.
