NORTH CHILI Oneonta ousted Fredonia State, 3-1, in the semifinals Friday afternoon of the SUNYAC Women's Soccer Tournament at Roberts Wesleyan College.
The Blue Devils (12-4-3) yielded two first-half goals before cutting their deficit in half, 2-1, on a goal by senior midfielder Reilly Condidorio, her ninth of the season, after she was stopped seconds earlier from close range. Junior forward Kristi Putzig was credited with an assist.
The goal gave Condidorio 43 goals and 104 points as a Blue Devil. Both totals are Fredonia State school records.
The Red Dragons re-established their two-goal margin on a goal by Karly DeSimone with 2:37 left.
"The girls worked hard in the second half,"?Fredonia State coach Chris Case said. "We almost tied the game before they scored late. We made too many errors early on and Oneonta got the lead. Give Oneonta credit. They played great today. They were on top of their game. They made us work."
Kayla Ceschini and Alaina Greco scored first-half goals for Oneonta, which will meet Cortland 1-0 winners over host Brockport in Friday's other semifinal. The championship game is 1 p.m. Saturday.
Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Meszaros recorded 10 saves for the Blue Devils. Oneonta's Rori Stark made seven stops.
The Red Dragons had 18-16 advantage in shots and a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.
"Now we are sitting and waiting to see if we get an at-large bid into the tournament,"?Case said. "Our chances are 50-50. It depends what goes on around the country. We will find out Monday."
