CATTARAUGUS - James J. Reed, 90, retired from the management department of Blackstone Corp, Jamestown where he worked for 30 years, died Friday, November 02, 2012 at the Lutheran Nursing and Rehab Center, Jamestown, NY.
He was born August 25, 1922 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the son of the late William and Lela (Turner) Reed.
He served in the Army during World War II having attained the rank of T SGT. enlisted on January 3, 1942 at Oklahoma City, OK discharged on November 11, 1945 at Ft. Macarthur, CA.
James also worked at Purolator in Fayetteville, NC for three and a half years and was a member of the Gowanda American Legion Post 409 and past member of the Randolph Circling Squares Dance Club.
He is survived by his wife Doris M. Hill Reed of Jamestown, two sons, James A. (Karen) Reed of Ballwin, MO, Darryl L. (Coreen) Reed of Mililani, HI; three daughters, Jacquelyn F. (James) Wells of Gowanda, NY, Donna B. (Gary) Norgaard of Leonia, NJ, Doris A. (Joseph) Castevens of Charlotte, NC; 12 grandchildren, and a sister, Pauline Frey of Chickasha, OK.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Laura A. Wells; his brother William Reed; his four sisters, Ruth Brewer, Helen Chenault, Willa Gibbs, and Norma Woodson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Hills Funeral Chapel, 55 South Main Street, Cattaraugus, NY. Rev. Vernon Saile of Gowanda Free Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Park Cemetery in Cattaraugus.
Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 6-9 P.M.
