Twenty years ago — 1992

Niagara Frontier Service Inc., the parent company of Tops Friendly Markets has taken over day-to-day operation of the Dunkirk store located on Vineyard Drive in the town from owners Jerry Trindel and Jane Eagan. Mr. Trindel and the local Tops store celebrated its 25th year of service to the community last December. The first Tops store opened at 258 East Main St., Fredonia. The current location opened in June of 1984.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Attendance at the recent Collins Pumpkin Festival was estimated at between 8,000 and 10,000. The enthusiastic response to the "pumpkin run" this year will make it an annual event for local runners. Harold Steff of Lawtons took first prize for the heaviest pumpkin, which weighed in at 323 pounds. It also had the largest circumference at 114 inches.

Forty years ago - 1972

The Rt. Rev. Harold B. Robinson, bishop of the Diocese of Western New York, was at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredonia recently for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the parish.

Fifty years ago - 1962

At Forestville Central School, like many other area schools, a moment of silence will be observed each day in place of the Regents prayer, which has been banned.
