Areas in the county which largely voted for the Democratic Party saw a decline in votes Tuesday.

In the city of Dunkirk, President Barack Obama received 3,080 votes in 2008. However, Tuesday, he received 2,558. Additionally, in Jamestown, Obama received 6,308 votes in 2008, and only 4,686 this year. In Pomfret, Obama received 3,989 votes four years ago, and 2,429 on Tuesday. Finally, in Westfield, Obama received 1,097 votes in 2008 and a mere 829 on Tuesday.

In many cases, however, these votes were not made up on the Republican side.

McCain received 4,563 votes in Jamestown in 2008, while Romney received 4,053 votes Tuesday. In Pomfret in 2008, McCain received 2,495 votes, and Romney received 2,055 votes Tuesday. The Assembly seat went much the same way from 2010 to 2012.

The city of Dunkirk gave the Democratic candidate Nancy Bargar 1,651 votes in 2010, and Rudy Mueller 1,908 votes this year. Assemblyman Andrew Goodell received 1,212 votes in 2010 and 1,923 votes Tuesday.

Jamestown gave Bargar 3,386 votes in 2010, and Mueller 4,144 on Tuesday. Goodell received 3,428 two years ago, and 4,568 on Tuesday.
