Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign at hand

The familiar sound of a ringing bell and the sight of a bright red kettle signals the beginning of the holiday season and reminds shoppers that many people are in need.

Throughout the world, the Salvation Army uses this campaign to fund its charity work.

Locally, members of the Salvation Army, have begun to ring the bell. At Tops Market, Theresa Salgado was greeting people with a smile, a hello, and a ringing bell. She said she was a member of the Salvation Army.

Laura Gonzalez of the Dunkirk Salvation Army said the stores that give space for the campaign are Tops, P&G, Big Lots and Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart will host the campaign as of Nov. 23.

Gonzalez also said volunteer bell ringers are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to call 366-3701 or 366-3701 for more information.

"We're flexible," she said. "A volunteer can volunteer a couple of hours or longer if the person wants. We will work with whatever a person can do."
