Routine water samples collected from the village of Forestville water system on Tuesday have shown that the water may contain potentially harmful bacteria. As a precaution, the Chautauqua County Health Department is asking all customers of the Forestville water supply to boil all water for drinking and cooking.
Do not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
What is being done?
Additional water supply samples were collected on Wednesday to determine if a true system-wide contamination exists or if the contamination was isolated to a single water tap sample. Results of these samples will be available this afternoon and the Health Department will issue further guidance at that time.
