Church CYO prepares for Christmas basket project

November 24, 2012
The OBSERVER

With Christmas fast approaching, the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Youth Organization is beginning to prepare for its annual Christmas Basket Project. Each year, the youth group provides food and gifts for up to 180 needy families from the area. Last Christmas, the youth group was able to assist approximately 650 adults and children from the area. The CYO relies on the generous contributions of the community to support this tremendous endeavor. Approximately $10,000 needs to be raised to fund the project.

On Saturday, Nov. 24, the SEAS CYO will have a "Fill the Stocking" drive at various intersections in Dunkirk. Collections will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The following intersections will be collections points: Central Avenue and Fifth Street, Central Avenue and Fourth Street and Doughty Street (near Route 60). Monetary donations are greatly appreciated.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 26 through Dec. 10, the CYO will be accepting applications for Christmas baskets. To request a basket, the only phone number to call is 363-6080. When calling this number, be patient with regards to someone calling back to take applications, as call volume is extremely heavy in the first week or so.

The baskets will be put together and distributed on Dec. 14 through 16. Volunteers are needed to assist with the weekend of Christmas Baskets. If interested in volunteering (many hands are needed) or making a donation, contact Carol Smith, project coordinator at 366-5908.
