Toys for Tots signup dates announced
Area residents can apply for assistance through the U.S. Marine Corps Re-serve's Toys for Tots drive.
Families connected with a human service agency should apply for assistance through their service coordinator.
For families that do not have a service coordinator, TRC will accept walk-in applications at the following times and locations only:
In Dunkirk, applications will be accepted from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday in The Resource Center's facility at 186 Lake Shore Drive West.
In Jamestown, applications will be accepted from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 210 Cherry St.
Children from birth to age 17 living at home are eligible to receive toys. All applicants must bring identification for themselves and their children living in their household, as well as proof of household income. Applicants must meet income criteria. All applications will be verified for eligibility requirements.
The Resource Center coordinates the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive in Chautauqua County each year, making the holidays brighter for about 2,500 children.

Village of South Dayton holding lighting contest
The village of South Dayton is sponsoring a Christmas lighting contest. The only category is a nicely decorated home with no specific theme. Judging will take place on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.
Residents are asked to have their lights on.
First place prize is $75; second place is $50; and honorable mention is $25.
Winners will be notified and prizes will be awarded at the library on Monday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
Cops, Kids and Christmas Clothing and Toy Drive to be held
The Gowanda Police Department Police Benevo-lent Association will sponsor the Cops, Kids and Christmas Clothing and Toy Drive and the Christmas Decoration Drive. Dona-tions are being accepted to share warmth and joy with families struggling financially through tough economic times in the Gowanda Central School District.
Donations sought include, new toys, clothing, gift certificates and decorations. Donations can be dropped off at the Gowanda Police Department, 27 E. Main St., Gowanda; Go-wanda Central Schools Main Office in Middle and High schools; and the School Resource Officer's office in the Gowanda Ele-mentary School. Horvath to speak to Rotary Club Tuesday
Fredonia State University President Virginia Horvath will be speaking to the Rotary Club of Dunkirk during its lunch meeting on Tuesday.
The club meets at Shorewood Country Club at 12:15 p.m. with lunch being $8.50. The public is invited to attend the meeting.
