2013 Concord

Babe Ruth

Founded in 1955, Concord Babe Ruth Baseball was created for ballplayers ages 13-15 who wished to continue their baseball playing experience beyond the age of 12. In this division, teams will compete in local house league play and players are eligible to compete on one of 2 showcase teams.

New for 2013, Concord Babe Ruth will feature a 13-14U and 15-U showcase team that will compete at various tournaments in the Western New York area. Players from Dunkirk and Fredonia are eligible to play Concord Babe Ruth.

Many local Babe Ruth alumni are now competing at the NCAA level at SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Brockport, Tusculum College, St. Bonaventure, Mercyhurst, JCC, MCC, ECC, Rochester and Chowan University.

At this point, coaching applications are being accepted for the 13-14U teams as well as the 15-U team.

FSU Baseball clinics

The Fredonia State baseball team will be hosting a pair of high school clinics Wednesday, Dec. 9. In addition to the Blue Devil staff, coaches from various area colleges will help with instruction.

Black Watch tryouts

The Black Watch soccer tryout for all boys ages 8-17 is Sunday, Dec. 2 from 1-2:30 p.m. on the Fredonia State turf field.

Ethan Brunner led the Steelers to another victory with a hat trick. Zach Korzeniewski, Alex Rush and Gabe Schrader all contributed with a goal apiece. Schrader also had an assist.

Outstanding defense by Jack Storm, Cooper Harris, Rush and Korzeniewski held the Lions to only a handful of shots.

Austin Rott earned the shutout in the net for Fredonia.

The Squirts are back in action this Saturday at Steele Hall to face the Southtown Stars at 1:45 p.m.

Adult Hockey

CCHA Senior Men's League B Division

Heenans 2, Roswell/Cliffstar 1

Tony Manzella and Derek Sheridan scored unassisted goals in Heenans win over Roswell/Cliffstar. Derek Backert had the goal for R/C, assisted by Ryan Simon and Ben Nickle.

Gary Shain chalked up the victory in net, and BJ Jakiela took the loss.

Wicked Glen 4, Roswell/Cliffstar 1

Chris Schur had the hat trick and Rob Strickler chipped in with a goal, all unassisted, in Wicked Glen's win over R/C.

Roswell's lone goal was scored by Derek Backert, assisted by Dan Nickle and Matt Murphy.

Local Television

Sports Rap

Sports Rap will air tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. o Access Channel 12. Ed Eaker will host the show and be joined by Jim Bunge, Rich Catalano and Bob Patterson.

Also joining the show will be Dunkirk wrestling coach Joe McMurdy along with senior wrestlers Kyle Perry, Teddy Griewisch, Tyler Aitcheson and Lucas Julian.
