Village issues leave bad taste

November 30, 2012
The OBSERVER

Just what else can possibly go wrong with Fredonia's "best tasting" water? In October, the village learned it owed $99,000 to the city of Dunkirk for water it used during the summer that - apparently - no one knew anything or just plain forgot about.

Oh well.

This week, village users are under a boil-water advisory due to another issue at the filtration plant.

Two major problems in two months. It makes one wonder just what else could possibly go wrong at the plant - or what village officials do not know about that could affect water delivery in the future?

Of course, Fredonia's history has been to pass its careless-looking mistakes on to users and taxpayers instead of addressing the problem or employee who may be responsible for any of the flaws.

Besides, as officials have noted, these issues at the plant are probably just a communication issue. In that instance, they would be correct. There is a communication problem - honest communication.

Residents deserve better than misrepresentation for the high rates they pay.
