Two Fredonia State men set records Friday during the first session of the Blue Devil Invitational at the Steele Hall Natatorium.
Senior diver Ryan Fuller broke a pool record in 3-meter springboard diving with 309.60 points for his six optional dives. He overtook Christian Torres, a current Blue Devil assistant coach, who scored 302.50 points during a 2009 meet.
The score was also an NCAA provisional qualifier mark for Fuller, who will attempt his five optional dives as part of the first session Sunday. The diving competition is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
John Estanislau, a junior, broke the team record in the 200-yard individual medley. His clocking of 1:57.58 was faster than Mike Seay's 1:57.72, also during a 2009 meet.
Estanislau also earned points with a first-place time of 21.66 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, and swam the opening leg of the victorious 800-yard freestyle relay. Other members of the quartet were freshman Liam Jones, junior Adrian Van Hall and freshman William Baker.
"(Jones and Baker) weren't necessarily hearalded recruits from Western New York, but they have made a huge effort here at Fredonia State," Fredonia State coach Arthur Wang said.
Meanwhile, the Fredonia State women had a strong showing on Day 1 of the Blue Devil Invitational.
Senior Sarah Ficarro provisionally qualified on the 1-meter board through six dives with a score of 257.20.
"They are happy to have this last chance to do a championship board," Fredonia State coach Arthur Wang said of Ficarro and Fuller. "They have some good competition and for everyone in ths meet, it's a good mid-season assessment."
Senior Elizabeth Schake won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.85 seconds.
Senior Lizzie Lodinsky was a double winner. Individually, she won the 1,650 in a time of 18:30.80. She was part of the 800-meter freestyle relay squad, joined by Smith, senior Emily Ginty and freshman Sam Rokos that touched first in 7:59.82.
A pair of Devils finished one-two in the 200 IM. Freshman Natalia Wilkins and senior Stephanie Andrasek turned in times of 2:12.52 and 2:14.7, respectively.
