Westfield wins opening game of tourney; Forestville prevails

WESTFIELD - Westfield had five players score in double-figures Friday night as the Wolverines (1-0) won their opening game of the Westfield Tip-Off Tournament, 88-39, over Falconer (0-1).

"Our kids played really well (Friday)," Westfield head coach Bob North said. "All nine kids scored and did a great job for me. We had an advantage size-wise, and Jordan Imm easily had his best career game. He played like he was (6-foot, 6-inches)."

Imm finished with 15 points, three rebounds and two blocks to help the Wolverines while teammate Jon Coe had a team-high 18 points to go with his five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

"It's a different role for him this year," North said of Coe. "He has to handle the ball for us."

The Wolverines jumped out to a 24-10 lead after the first quarter, before ballooning the lead to 46-21 at halftime. The second half wasn't much better for the Golden Falcons, as the Wolverines outscored Falconer, 42-18 in the second half.

"We weren't sure coming in what kind of team we would have," North said. "And they came in tonight and played real well for us. We're just hopeful it can continue (tonight)."

Tanner Dahl had 17 points, four steals and three assists, Dylan MacCubbin finished with 12 points, four assists and three steals while Dan DeMarco chipped in 10 points, four steals and four rebounds in the win.

For Falconer, Nick Conti had 14 points and three assists, Mike Wilcox had 10 points and Mitch Carter had eight points. Devon Cameron led the team with eight rebounds to go with his seven points.

In the other game Friday night, Sherman (1-0) beat Frewsburg (0-1), 56-46.

Andrew Graham led the Wildcats with 15 points and four steals while Ryan Robson chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Sherman and Frewsburg played to a 10-all tie after the first quarter, but the Wildcats outscored the Bears, 15-11, in the second to take a slight, 25-21 lead into halftime. From there, the Wildcats outscored the Bears, 31-25, for the 10-point win.

Jake Card chipped in nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Sherman while teammates Devin Moorhead (four assists) and Ryan Myers (four steals) each had eight points.

For Frewsburg, Alex Elderkin had a game-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds while Josh Nelson added nine points.

Westfield and Sherman will meet in the championship game tonight at 7 p.m., with Frewsburg and Falconer meeting in the consolation game at 5:30. The jayvee portion of the schedule begins with the consolation final between Frewsburg and Falconer at 2 and the final between Westfield and Sherman at 3:30.

Forestville 48, West?Valley 39

WEST VALLEY - The Forestville Hornets jumped out to an early lead and were forced to rally in the second half to hold off the West Valley Panthers, 48-39, Friday in non-league boys' high school basketball.

Trailing by a point with three minutes remaining, Forestville's Jacob Nosbisch hit a key shot and then added two key free throws in the final minute to seal the victory. Nosbisch led the Hornets with 13 points while Adam Pleva chipped in with 12.

Caleb Makuch pulled down 13 rebounds while Wayne Hartloff had 11 rebounds, 11 points and two blocks for the winners. Nosbisch also had five assists and four steals.
