Westfield Academy and Central High School junior Joshua Crolle has been selected to be one of 350 students nationwide to attend the National Young Leaders Conference this week in Washington, D.C. This year's theme will be "The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting The Leaders of Today." Joshua is the son of James and Carol Ivory Crolle of Westfield. He is the grandson of Rita Ivory of Dunkirk and James Crolle Sr. of Forestville.
Thirty years ago - 1982
At the age of 17, Theodore Scott of County Line Road in the town of Hanover, is already a dairy farmer - probably the youngest person operating such a business in Western New York. He has been negotiating milk contracts since age 15 and now manages a 200-acre dairy farm. His days begin at 5 a.m. and don't end until 7:30 or later each night. He currently has 45 cows and his peak milk production is up to 1,700 pounds. Ted lives on the farm with his mother, Ann, and handles the entire farm business.

James Eacker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Eacker of Dennison Road, Silver Creek is the Student of the Week. He is a senior at Forestville Central School.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Hawley B. Rogers was honored at the annual meeting of the Chautauqua County Extension Service Agricultural Department. He organized the service on Jan. 1, 1913 as the first county agent.
