Lake Shore Savings partners with Mikey’s Way Foundation

December 3, 2012
The OBSERVER

Lake Shore Savings Bank is proud to announce a partnership with the Mikey's Way Foundation. The goal of the Mikey's Way Foundation is to be able to connect hospitalized children with their friends, family, and school, enabling them to cope with the separation during long-term treatment for cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

The Foundation ensures this connection through the use of the Internet (Skype), and its ability to supply every child with a laptop computer, netbook or similar electronic device.

Creating this connection also presents a child with a form of diversion. This diversion helps create the Mind-Body Connection, and a way for them to escape, Mikey's Way.

The Foundation hosts several Mikey's Day events at local hospitals throughout the year to pass out laptops, netbooks and other electronic devices.

Lake Shore Savings Bank dedicated the Month of October as "Mikey's Way Month." During this time each branch location throughout Chautauqua and Erie Counties sold raffle tickets for a pair of Buffalo Bills tickets to two upcoming home games during December. Throughout this time our employees, with the help of our customers, raised $10,236.

The Board of Directors of Lake Shore, MHC, the majority stockholder of Lake Shore Bancorp., Inc., matched the dollar amount raised by the Lake Shore Savings Bank fundraising effort.

On Nov. 3 a check presentation was made to the Mikey's Way Foundation for the amount of $20,472.

"We at Mikey's Way Foundation are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Lake Shore Savings Bank. Their care and concern for the community came shining through when they offered to help our charity tackle some of the problems associated with pediatric cancer. All 125 employees pitched in to make their fundraiser an amazing success," said Les Friedman CEO & President of the Mikey's Way Foundation. All of these funds will go to help approximately 50 kids at local hospitals.

"I am truly grateful for the comprehensive fundraising support for Mikey's Way, which involved our employees, customers, and the communities we serve. This encompassing support has helped the Mikey's Way Foundation achieve the original goal Mikey Friedman set out to do, and I sincerely thank everyone that was involved," said Daniel P Reininga, President & CEO of Lake Shore Savings Bank.
