SILVER CREEK - Christmas in Silver Creek for some families will be more plentiful thanks to a generous donation. The Ruth Remsen Clothing Center has donated $1,000 to the Silver Creek Food Pantry.
The money was from proceeds at the clothing center which sells donated clothing. The Silver Creek Food Pantry is one of several organizations that benefits from proceeds of clothing sales.
"We like to (donate money) locally," volunteer Sally Shevlin said.

The clothing center is behind the First United Presbyterian Church in the village square. It was started by parishioner Ruth Remsen in 1968. It is open on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are kept locally.
"We like to keep (donations) in the community," volunteer Candy Weitz said.
The donation was accepted by Food Pantry Director Colleen McKenna. The Silver Creek Food Pantry helps families in the community and according to McKenna, the number of families who use the pantry has increased.
"Our numbers at the food pantry have gone up," she said.
Each year the food pantry provides baskets for a Christmas dinner and breakfast to families in need. The baskets have been distributed since 1968. Included in each holiday basket is a turkey, vegetables, pies and eggs among other items needed for dinner and breakfast. It is expected that 125 baskets will be given out to families this year. The donated money will purchase turkeys for the baskets.
"I am overwhelmed at the generosity that they extend to the food pantry," McKenna said. "I'm so appreciative."
Girls from Silver Creek Girl Scout troops will help pack the baskets on Dec. 15. The baskets will be handed out that morning to families. To fill out an application to receive a basket, contact McKenna at 934-4570.
The food pantry is located at 260 Central Ave., Silver Creek. It is open on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon where donations can be dropped off. Donations of money, personal care items, food or cleaning items are accepted. To donate items, call McKenna at 934-4570. Monetary donations can be sent to P.O. Box 173, Silver Creek, NY 14136.
