Westfield wins defensive battle

WESTFIELD - In a defensive battle, the Westfield Wolverines defeated Brocton, 36-25, Wednesday in girls non-league basketball action.

Miranda Warner led the way with 13 points while Nina Manzella pulled down 10 of her team's 36 rebounds. Abbey Jopek and Kari Knopp each had six rebounds.

Westfield held a 12-9 halftime lead and used a 16-5 fourth-quarter run to put the game away.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Jess Putcher's nine points. Jess Merle and Morgan Benett combined for 14 rebounds in a losing effort.

Westfield returns to action Friday in the first round of the Westfield Tournament. It hosts Randolph at 8 p.m. The first game of the tournament will feature Clymer against Chautauqua Lake at 6:30 p.m. The consolation game will be played Saturday at 5:15 p.m. followed by championship game.
