Twenty years ago - 1992

The Dunkirk Local Development Corporation has approved a $37,500 loan to a local couple renovating the former West End Diner on Lake Shore Drive West. Randy and Cheryl Goss are the owners of the soon-to-be restaurant and convenience store that will be known as Leonardo Da Vinci's Gallery of Food, or simply, "Lenny's." Randy Goss said he hopes to have the business open by June and plans to use a deck in front for seasonal activities such as picnic tables in the fall and a Santa's gift shack for children at Christmas time.

Thirty years ago 1982

Dunkirk Lodge 89, Loyal Order of the Moose, met in the clubrooms recently to honor New York State Police Trooper Jack Miller as "Officer of the Year." Assigned to the Fredonia Barracks, Trooper Miller has directed the Christmas "Toys for Tots" program for the past several years.

Forty years ago - 1972

Peace negotiator Henry A. Kissinger started a new round of direct talks today with Hanoi envoys in a search for an early peace in Vietnam. It was the 22nd such meeting by Mr. Kissinger.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Miss Karen Leah Erick, John Gormly and Robert Bohn, seniors at Dunkirk, Fredonia and Cardinal Mindszenty high schools, respectively, have been selected to receive Bausch & Lomb honorary science award medals.
