Editor, OBSERVER:
It is to the credit of the OBSERVER that you included a gay couple in the paper's engagements section (Dec. 2). We realize that in doing so, the newspaper opened itself to a strain of criticism it may not have experienced until now.
Your decision to respect and uphold New York State's marriage equality law is courageous and shows an acceptance of the diversity of sexual orientations in this community. The Unitarian Universalist Church supports equality for all people, including sexual minorities, and your publication of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender marital announcements is especially laudable to this committee.
Again, on behalf of the Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua, we applaud your inclusive approach.
