OBSERVER Sports Report
The Dunkirk indoor track and field team started the season off strongly, Saturday at the Steele Hall Field House at SUNY Fredonia.
Senior Lisa Dunbar set a new school record with her pole vault of 8-feet. The previous record was shared by Dunbar and Pam Waclawski.
Dunbar also anchored Dunkirk's third-place 800 meter relay team with Yvette Hernandez, Amanda Michalski and Calan Pogorzelski.
Pogorzelski finished fifth in both the 600 (1:49.6) and 300 (:47.5) while Michalski finished third in the triple jump (30-2) and fourth in the 55 hurdles (:10.36).
The boys team was led by Nick Barlette's fourth-place finish in the 55 meters (:6.98). The time was good enough to earn Barlette a spot in the Sectional meet.
Ethan Francis added a second-place finish in the 1,000 (2:56.3) while Javier Soto was fifth in the same race at 2:59.6.
Kevin Morales placed second in the 600 (1:35.1) and Ray Tarnowski was fifth in the 3,200 (9:21.9).
"It was a great start to the new year," Dunkirk coach Kurt Warmbrodt said. "It was a good solid team effort."
Dunkirk travels to Lancaster on Saturday.
