Twenty years ago - 1992

Deborah Jakubowski, daughter of William J. and Paula Jakubowski, recently earned her Girl Scout Silver Award for her efforts in a wide range of Girl Scout experiences and her commitment to the betterment of the lives of others. Her Silver Award project was entitled, "In the Middle." Deborah completed her requirements under the guidance of Troop 31 leader Donna Brisky.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Dunkirk area residents have donated hundreds and hundreds of pairs of shoes to the "Shoes for Poland" drive initiated in Buffalo and coordinated locally by Dr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Mackowiak of Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk. The Western New York drive to collect footwear due to a shortage in Poland has resulted in 15,000 pairs of shoes to send overseas. In addition to the shoes, a Dunkirk physician, who prefers to remain anonymous, donated medical supplies valued at several thousand dollars.

Forty years ago - 1972

Life magazine, pioneer weekly in photojournalism in the United States, will suspend publication with the year-end double issue dated Dec. 29, it was announced.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Robert R. Dew, president of Dunkirk Trust Co., announced today the directors of the company voted a special Christmas dividend to stockholders in the amount of $8 per share payable Dec. 20.
