Marauders hold off Cougars, 50-33

SINCLAIRVILLE - The Dunkirk Marauders were the benefactors of four forfeits, three pins and a technical fall in holding off the Cassadaga Valley Cougars, 50-33, Tuesday in non-league high school wrestling action.

Dunkirk's Lucas Julian earned an impressive 23-7 technical fall win over Shane Szoblewski in the 132-pound match.

At 285, Dunkirk's eighth grader Nick Jones won 6-2 over Josh Alwell.

"That was a very good match for Nick," Dunkirk coach Joe McMurdy said. "He was very very impressive at wrestling 285."

Teddy Griewisch improved his record to 8-2 with a 3:10 pin over Tyler Randall at 126. Meanwhile, at 152, Phil Jones won with a pinfall over Zach Mower at 3:50. Dunkirk's other pin came at 99 pounds as Billy Seiders pinned Trent Merrill in 3:30.

The Cougars had some pins of their own highlighted by Billy Sischo's 3:18 pin over Jacob McDaneld at 138. Tage Reuther (160) pinned Fred Herman at 1:06 and Nick Peterson (170) downed Tyler Aitcheson in 3:40. At 195, Brandon Wise pinned Adrien Alvardo in 1:09 while at 220: Tyson Gugino pinned Alex Jones in 2:57.

"It was good, competitive match," McMurdy said.

The Marauders host Gowanda today.

The Westfield-Ripley-Chautauqua Lake wrestling team ran its undefeated streak to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in Division 1 by beating host Cattaraugus-Little Valley, 40-26, Tuesday night.

The fastest pin was at 120 was when Christian Parnell of WRCL flattened Adolph Zollinger in one minute and another quick pin was at 106 where teammate Bryce Rowe pinned Courtney Fleming in 1:47.

Billy Fleming of C-LV (0-3, 3-5) was ahead of Dominique Rammelt, 9-8, when Rammelt pinned him in 5:33 at 152 pounds.

Matt Booth of C-LV ran his record to 11-0 by pinning Trevor Enterline in 5:30 at 220 pounds.

Nick Sandy of C-LV increased his record to 10-1 by blanking 145-pound Damian Rayner, 13-0.
