Twenty years ago - 1992

Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. (COI) was recently presented with one of the "No Time to Lose" awards given each year by Mary Jo Bane, commissioner of the New York State Department of Social Services. The award is given to selected recipients for "outstanding individual and community achievements" in their commitment to improving the lives of children and families. COI was cited for providing a whole range of services to nearly 20,000 children and families.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Kevin A. Ricotta, a Dunkirk native currently associated with a Buffalo law firm, has been notified that he has successfully completed the New York State Bar Examination. He received his juris doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in May 1982. Mr. Ricotta is the son of State Supreme Court Justice and Mrs. Joseph J. Ricotta, 702 Roosevelt Ave., Dunkirk.

Forty years ago - 1972

The OBSERVER received special permission from the Judicial Department to take rare courtroom photographs at the courthouse in Mayville. They were taken during a ceremony in which 20 new citizens were sworn in. The historic occasion marked the end of 135 years of citizenship ceremonies in the county. They are now to be switched to Buffalo.

Fifty years ago - 1962

"Tiny," a Boston terrier living at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Whitehead, 16 Matteson St., Fredonia is the Pet of the Week. Pictured with the little dog are Pauline and Cindy, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Whitehead.
