House fire under investigation

The Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 79 W. Doughty St. shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday. Initial crews found heavy smoke conditions on the first and second floor, all occupants had safely evacuated the house. The main body of fire was on the first floor in the rear of the structure in the kitchen area. Crews used a 1 3/4 inch line to knock down the main body of fire within 15 minutes. The fire had extended up the wall into the second floor. Extensive overhaul was done to extinguish hot spots on both the first and second floors. The fire was out in 40 minutes. Crews remained on scene until 2:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation team.
