A workshop is scheduled tonight for the Fredonia Village Board.
Will it happen? That is a good question.
Despite a number of major issues, most of which involve the village's water plant, the board has not met since Dec. 6. On that day trustees approved a number of mundane and everyday items - those issues our small area boards thrive on. But it was certainly nothing to warrant a "special meeting" at noon on a Thursday.
During the past two months, water issues - including a bill of $98,000 from the city of Dunkirk that was unexpected, a supervisor's retirement and a boil-water issue from Nov. 28 to Dec. 3 - demand more attention and discussion from village officials to their constituents other than it was just an oversight.
With the exception of the village of Forestville, boil advisories are not the norm for water systems.
Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that Fredonia board members were scheduled to meet on Dec. 10. However, that meeting was canceled with no reason being given.
The lack of a meeting and public discussion makes it appear as though the board and its staff are exhibiting a lack of urgency and detail when it comes to what is really happening at the water plant.
If the last six months are any indication, why would residents possibly think otherwise?
