Chautauqua County American Legion

The December meeting of the Chautauqua County American Legion was held recently at the Ira Lou Spring Post 149 in Jamestown.

A Pearl Harbor Memorial Service was held.

Sue Rawley, a representative of the Blue Star Mothers reported that 368 boxes of items were sent to troops overseas and on other activities this group is involved in.

Various reports were given, including notification of the County Oratorical Contest set for Dec. 16 at the Herman Kent Post 777, Celoron.

A Children and Youth Certificate from the National Legion was presented to the Herman Kent Post 777, Celoron.

The next meeting of the County Legion will be on Friday, Jan. 18, at the John W. Rogers Post 327, Westfield.

CIAO

On Dec. 14, CIAO members and guests celebrated the holidays at JCC Conference Center. Members were treated to a variety of specially-made desserts and snacks from ricotta cheese cookies and cheesecake to wheat to celebrate St. Lucy's Day. The movie, "Love and War" was screened; games of scopa and lively conversations were the highlight of the evening. The movie was a true story about an English soldier captured in Italy during World War II and the love of a beautiful Italian woman, who became his wife of 55 years.

Future activities include St. Joseph Table, trips to Italian festivals and the annual picnic. Any member wishing to be on any event committee or who may have suggestions for activities, may contact President Sam Crisanti at 934-2592, or attend one of the board meetings. Meetings are held at 7 p.m., on the first Tuesday of the month at JCC conference Center.
