Results awash in questions

Is Fredonia's water really the best tasting in Chautauqua County?

That's what the county Health Department announced in the spring after its annual - and meaningless - taste testing competition at the Chautauqua Mall. But how do we know the water was really water from Fredonia?

Since the "surprise" $98,000 bill for water over the spring and summer months from the city of Dunkirk appeared in the village mailbox, who can really say for sure the water came from the Fredonia plant?

Not the retiring supervisor, who was not upfront with village leaders that he was consistently dipping into Dunkirk's water supply.

Not the village administrator, who found out about the water usage from the city of Dunkirk only after receiving the bill.

And not even the Village Board or the mayor, who were all left in the dark regarding the purchase of Dunkirk water.

Maybe, instead of Fredonia having the "best tasting water," we should be congratulating Dunkirk. At least we know they were consistently producing their own water.

And being honest about it.
